The ACSYA Inc. Hosts Virtual Meeting with the Iraqi Ambassador to Australia
CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA – The Board of Directors of ACSYA Inc. met virtually with his Excellency, Dr. Basim Hattab Al-Tumma, the Iraqi Ambassador to Australia on Monday, 27 September 2021. The objective of this meeting was for the purposes of a meet and greet and to raise ongoing concerns regarding the state of Assyrian cultural heritage in Northern Iraq.
In this high-level meeting, the parties discussed the importance of future cooperation and emphasised on their common interests in the region. The Ambassador was presented with a soft copy of ACSYA Inc.’s preliminary report that provides a brief analysis of the risk posed to indigenous cultural heritage with recommendations to help ensure their protection.
ACSYA Inc. will continue to engage with and maintain an on-going relationship with the Iraqi Embassy in Australia’s capital to prioritise the conservation of cultural heritage, campaign for human rights, and advocate for the equitable representation of indigenous Assyrians in the Middle East.
